You Are There
Thank you.
That you are there.
Always.
Outside and Inside.
The wind blows
Swooshing and swaying
This way and that.
Then I see,
You are everywhere.
A tree forms.
Sprouting and blooming
Spreading its roots.
Then I see,
You are growing me.
A bird flies.
Swooping and soaring
Traveling on.
Then I see,
You free me.
The rain falls.
Trickling and tapping
Bathing the earth.
Then I see,
You wash me.
A path forms
Worn and weaving,
Moving forward.
Then I see,
You lead me.
The shade settles.
Calling and cradling
Giving rest.
Then I see,
You comfort me.
The sun rises.
Waking from sleep
Giving life.
Then I see,
You’ve raised me.
My voice calls
Floating and echoing
In open spaces.
Then I see,
You answer me.
A song begins
Nudging and urging
For others to join.
Then I see,
You befriend me.
A mom walks
Caressing and toting
Her child behind.
Then I see,
You carry me.
My heart beats
Drumming and soothing
A steady voice.
Then I see,
You dwell in me.
Thank you.
That you are there.
Always.
Outside and inside.
A Story of Rescue
If sin is a lion, then I am his prey.
Concealed amidst tall blades of grass
Watching…waiting… he studies me.
He leads me toward the paths unknown,
Filled with pits and snares and briers.
But all the harm I cannot see.
For he places in my path a call
Wooing with his charm and pleasure
My flesh deceived and wants to be.
So follow I will and dying I am.
My heart screaming to run.
But gone so far, where will I flee?
If love is a shepherd, then I am his sheep.
And though my heart and will are hard
He seeks me in the dark and lonely.
This pit I’m in so vast so deep
Has no escape, no way, no hope
Until my shepherd reaches down for me.
But how can I accept this love,
With my head hung low in shame
How can I be set free?
I recoil except for one brief glance
Oh, but that is all I need!
To gaze on my Savior, light I now see.
My heart is crying, softening within
As I cling to His mighty arms,
pulling me up, He delivers me.
And then this Shepherd with love, new life
Found in shining robes of white,
He kneels to cover me.
Oh, beast of sin you prowl and wait
To tempt and lead away.
But, these robes are now my victory.
Now, and always, my Savior I see.
Now, and always… I am free.
My Daddy
“Daddy I fell. Can you help me up?”
And my knees were scraped. And the tears did fall.
So, he came quickly running to lift me up
And I knew he’d be there to answer my call
He bandaged my scrapes and wiped my tears
And that daddy-sized hug took all of my fears.
“Daddy I dream of a really cool bike.”
So, I drew him a picture. He hung it with care.
He set out for the store to find what I like
And the best part about it was the time we did share.
For hours behind me he ran holding tight.
And only let go when I had it just right.
“Daddy I’d like a colorful cake.”
And he led in a song. And the candles burned bright.
And just as I thought of what wish to make
I started to blow with all of my might.
And behind me he helped me to blow, joyfully
And he cut the very best piece just for me.
“Daddy I’m cold. Can you turn up the heat?”
And I shivered and shook. And I whined and I cried.
He brought me a mug with a hot chocolate treat
And a cuddly bear he placed at my side.
A blanket was next as he tucked me in tight
Right next to the fire by the warm, glowing light.
Your daddy in Heaven – He knows every need
He answers each call whether happy or sad.
He lays down a path where he does lead
And knows how to fix it when things are bad.
And when you ask for bright blue skies
A beautiful rainbow is what He provides.
Your daddy in Heaven is your very best Friend.
To pain, He gives you purpose and peace.
Your broken heart he gently will mend
He’ll heal and help with the words that He speaks.
He never gets tired of hearing your call
And picks you up whenever you fall.
He offers even more than you ask or imagine.
Just look around and see all His glory.
By giving or taking He makes you more like Him.
Each gift that He gives is your unfolding story.
And sometimes it seems that life is a test
But all that He gives you is only the best.
